Contralto
NAGGAR-TREMBLAY Rose
The contralto Rose Naggar-Tremblay began her musical training with piano and choral singing, then started studying classical voice at the age of 12. She continued her studies at McGill University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance, with a minor in European Literature and Culture.
She then joined the Atelier Lyrique at the Opéra de Montréal, where she quickly made a name for herself with her dark and velvety voice.
A rich and original artistic personality, she channels her creativity and love of languages into various artistic creations, including writing librettos and children's shows, as well as performing contemporary operas, a repertoire she particularly enjoys.
In 2018, she portrayed Zora (Svadba by Sokolovic) at the Opéra de Montréal, a production that won the Prix Opus for Event of the Year. The following season, she performed the role of Gertrude Stein (Twenty-Seven by Gordon and Vavrek) and participated in the creation of the opera La nuit est ma femme (Côté and Ivy), playing the role of Gabrielle during the 2019-2020 season.
Her curiosity and musical background have allowed her to explore a vast repertoire that also includes Carmen, Dido (Dido and Aeneas), the Duchess della Volta (La Fille du Tambour-Major), and more.
An accomplished musician, she also lends her voice to chamber music, participating in numerous concerts and recitals. In Canada, she has recently performed as a soloist in Palmeri’s Magnificat, Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Dixit Dominus, Mozart’s and Duruflé’s Requiem, as well as numerous Bach cantatas.
A two-time winner of the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques program, she won the First Grand Prix Opera at the Georges Enesco International Competition in Paris in October 2021.
More recently, she has performed the role of Carmen at the Sofia Opera and the Edmonton Opera and was named Radio-Canada Revelation 2022-2023.
She also portrayed the Second Elf (Rusalka) at the Operas of Metz and Reims, made her debut as Erda (Das Rheingold) at the Theater Erfurt, sang the Voice from Above (Die Frau ohne Schatten) at the Capitole de Toulouse, and participated in a concert tour of Bach’s Motets with Insula Orchestra.
Among her upcoming projects are Cornelia (Giulio Cesare) at the Capitole de Toulouse, as well as Farnace (Mitridate) at La Scala in Milan and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées with Les Talens Lyriques under the baton of Christophe Rousset.

"The first aria is an opportunity for Rose Naggar-Tremblay to showcase her qualities: the voice is resonant, well-timbred, and her dramatic and musical expression is perfectly in tune. Her attention to language and meaning is constant, with ideal projection. We will find the same joy in her performance of the introduction to the cantata by Carl Philipp Emanuel. A name to remember."
