Florent Mbia received his vocal training at the École nationale de musique de Montreuil, where he studied with Françoise Petro. He was awarded a First Prize in Singing with the jury’s highest distinction in 2008, followed by a Diplôme d’Études Musicales in Chamber Music in 2009. He further developed his artistry through numerous master classes with distinguished artists including José Cura and Thomas Moser.
An award-winning baritone, he has been recognized at several international competitions. He was a finalist at the Strasbourg International Singing Competition and received the E. J. Marshall Prize for Best Baritone at the Paris International Singing Competition (UFAM). In 2009, he won First Prize at both the European Lyric Forum in Arles and the Clermont-Ferrand International Singing Competition.
In the same year, Florent Mbia joined the Chorus of the Opéra national de Paris and became a resident artist at the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne for the 2010–2011 season, performing roles such as Norton (La cambiale di matrimonio) and appearing in Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle.
His operatic career encompasses a wide repertoire, including Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Don Giovanni, Don Alfonso, Montano (Otello), Orpheus (Orfeo ed Euridice), as well as contemporary works.
At the Opéra national de Paris, he has appeared in productions of La forza del destino, Rigoletto, Tosca, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, and La Bohème. In 2021, he portrayed Laurence (Le Magnifique) at the Opéra de Reims.
Equally active on the concert stage, he regularly performs as a soloist in major sacred and symphonic works, including Duruflé’s Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Handel’s Messiah, and Orff’s Carmina Burana, collaborating with conductors such as José Cura, Claude Schnitzler, and Michel Pelletier.
In 2023, Florent Mbia joined the new lyric ensemble of the Opéra de Paris.
