LAGARDE Olivier
An accordionist in childhood and a percussionist in his teenage years, Olivier Lagarde was born in Alsace and holds a degree in Musicology from the University of Strasbourg. He began his vocal studies at the Strasbourg Conservatory before moving to Paris, where he obtained a Diplôme d’Études Musicales (DEM) at the Pantin Conservatory. He is also a graduate of the Pôle Supérieur de Musique de Rennes, where he studied with Stéphanie d’Oustrac and Olga Pitarch.
The early stages of his career were marked by the world premiere of Sex’Y, a contemporary opera directed by Marie-Ève Signeyrole, performed at the Amphitheatre of the Opéra Bastille. Following this production, he portrayed Bishop Amauri de la Motte in the creation of the oratorio Vincent Ferrier en chemin, composed by Mathilde Malenfant and staged by *Jean-Michel Fournereau. He also met baritone Stéphane Degout, with whom he worked on French art song during a masterclass at the Opéra de Rennes—a deeply inspiring and formative encounter for the young singer.
A musician with eclectic tastes and a strong stage presence, Olivier Lagarde performs a wide-ranging repertoire spanning contemporary creation, musical theatre, grand opera, and opéra comique. His roles include Guglielmo and Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte, Mozart), Lord Sydney (Il viaggio a Reims, Rossini), Pâris (Roméo et Juliette, Gounod), Calchas (La Belle Hélène, Offenbach), Brother (Red Waters, Keren Ann), Jupiter (Orphée aux Enfers, Offenbach), Monsieur Petitpois (Du style galant au style méchant, Tailleferre), Antinous (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, Monteverdi), Henry Etches (Titanic, Yeston), a Cappadocian (Salome, Strauss), Don Basilio (The Barber of Seville, Rossini), Périchaud (La Rondine, Puccini), and the Sacristan (Tosca, Puccini).
He has collaborated with artists such as Arthur Nauzyciel, Keren Ann, Damien Jalet, Mariame Clément, Aurélien Azan Zielinsky, Paul-Émile Fourny, Katja Krüger, Nil Kabaretti, and Joël Lauwers, and performs regularly at the Opéra de Rennes, the Grand Théâtre d’Angers, and the Opéra de Metz.
An initiator of several musical projects, Olivier Lagarde is notably a member of Lyrisme de Rue, a street opera company founded during the lockdown period and supported by the Opéra de Rennes for the creation of its new production À Votre Guise!. He also forms, with pianist Maxence Gutierrez, the versatile art song and lieder duo Les Deux Baladins.
Finally, he created the musical theatre production The Mozart Show, written and staged in collaboration with actor Lucien Hébrant and the Iris Quartet, produced by his own company Sauvage Production.
