COOLEN Claire
Born in Canada, Claire Coolen earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. She was a laureate of the "Cappuccilli-Patané-Respighi" competition in Alessandria, where she won the Audience Prize.
She has performed roles such as Gilda (*Rigoletto*) in Florida and on tour in Italy (Viterbo, Grosseto, Castelfiorentino, Perugia), as well as Liù (*Turandot*) at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago. With the National Theatre of Belgrade, she has sung Lucia (*Lucia di Lammermoor*), Violetta (*La Traviata*), and Mimì (*La Bohème*). Other roles she has performed across the United States, Italy, and Canada include Marie (*La Fille du Régiment*), Susanna (*Le Nozze di Figaro*), Sister Constance (*Dialogues des Carmélites*), Musetta (*La Bohème*), Pamina and Papagena (*Die Zauberflöte*), Dorinda (*Orlando*), and The Governess (*The Turn of the Screw*), for which she received the Royal Bank of Canada Excellence Award.
She has also shown a keen interest in contemporary repertoire, portraying Hannah (*My Friends Story* by Martin Bresnik) and Mrs. Winemiller (*Summer and Smoke* by Lee Hoiby).
As her voice has evolved, she has recently performed the role of Countess Almaviva (*Le Nozze di Figaro*) in Terni, Rosina (*Il Barbiere di Siviglia*) in Tempio Pausania, and Violetta in China and on tour in Italy.
