BARBERI Dominic
Born in Malta, Dominic Barberi studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland before making his debut as one of Seneca’s Familiars (L’Incoronazione di Poppea) with Opera North.
He then joined the Young Artist Program at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin from 2015 to 2018, where he performed roles such as Pietro (Simon Boccanegra), Baron Douphol (La Traviata), Tom (Un Ballo in maschera), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), and Colline (La Bohème).
In the summer of 2016, he made his debut as Colas (Bastien und Bastienne) and the Commendatore (Don Giovanni) at the Bregenz Festival. He later portrayed Ferrando (Il Trovatore) at the Dessau Theater, Publio (La Clemenza di Tito) and Zuniga (Carmen) at the Staatstheater Braunschweig.
As a member of the ensemble at the National Theatre Mannheim from 2018 to 2020, he performed roles including Colline, Alidoro (La Cenerentola), and Angelotti (Tosca).
During the pandemic, his scheduled debut at La Scala in Milan was unfortunately canceled, but he went on to perform Sir Giorgio (I Puritani) in Oviedo. He then appeared in Shostakovich’s The Nose at the Komische Oper Berlin and sang Angelotti at the Leipzig Opera.
He made his French debut as Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) at the Opéra de Lille, followed by Alidoro at the Opéra de Montpellier and Collatinus (The Rape of Lucretia) at the Capitole de Toulouse.
Most recently, he performed as Gravis/Theologian in Busoni’s Doktor Faust at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and as the One-Armed Man (Die Frau ohne Schatten) in Toulouse.
Among his upcoming projects is the role of the First Soldier (Salome) at the Opéra National de Paris.
